Farmhouse for Mr.Hanan,Hyderabad
Farmhouse - A weekend getaway,15 km from Hyderabad city with sustainability as the key concept.
The Site is a 2000 sq yards plot in a township with roads flanking the north and south sides.
Prerequisites of the client specify a spacious living environment with 3 bedrooms. Priority was to design and build an ecofriendly house with seamless indoor-outdoor connect.
Proposal at a Glance
The view to the site from the road instantly directs ones attention to the dramatic sloped roof and the Rammed earth walls. This Mangalore tiled pitched roof resting on the rammed earth wall creates an intrigue regarding the spaces behind its facade.
As one enters the house a small foyer leads into a vast open space having the living and dining areas with ample natural light.Outdoor spaces such as the semi-open decks, gardens and pond are connected to this area, which creates a spacious appeal.
Making a place - design process
Working as per the requirement of the client to have large spaces in a limited budget, spill out gardens and large openings were incorporated to give an illusion of large spaces.A private garden is adjoined to the living acting as a spill out space for its activities, while a rainwater collection pond has been integrated into the landscape abutting the dining.
The kitchen and dining open out into the backyard through a deck with outdoor activities such as a barbeque, swimming pool and play area all around marking a private zone. This private backyard is screened by rammed earth walls from both the roads providing a sense of enclosure and privacy.
A large terrace towards the east is designed on the first floor looking into the backyard , so as to cater to the visual connect and also capture the early morning sun.

Call me biased if you like, but I love Islington. I’ve lived in this leafy urban village for twenty years, my children go to school here, and I’ve set up my architectural practice here. Please get more details on residential architecture islington.
